About Role:

VFS is seeking a well-organized self-starter for a full-time position as a Data Specialist. The Data Specialist supports the client’s campaign strategy and directs voter contact programs within VFS’s portfolio. We seek a service-oriented individual with technical and political skills for this work. This position is ideal for someone with a creative, analytical mindset and a deep understanding of the sorts of data used and generated by political field campaigns.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • ​Supporting the data and analytics team in implementing VFS’s client goals

  • Participating in VFS’s creation of field campaign and organizing strategy and team benchmarks for success

  • Working to support the drafting and use of training materials on VAN and other campaign data tools and systems to prepare staff in field offices for success, including through leading trainings in person and remotely

  • Helping to administer and troubleshoot issues on VAN and other campaign data tools

  • Working with partner organizations using the voter file and other technologies to support, enhance, and execute programs; this includes assisting partners in employing data tools for program implementation, applying best practices, and converting technical data to actionable issue advocacy and electoral campaign recommendations

  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of data visualization tools to help inform strategic decision making and track programs’ progress to goals

  • Managing other data projects to help deliver on the data and analytics team’s goals to an exceptionally high standard​

Qualifications:

​

Required:

  • ​At least two cycles working on political campaigns or political organizing work that emphasize field organizing and large-scale canvassing specifically

  • At least one cycle specifically focused wholly or in a large part on managing data for large field operations on a political campaign or at a political organizing group

  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities, preferably in political or organizing settings

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of information with impeccable attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong sense of ownership and resilience concerning planning, finding alternative paths when needed, and bouncing back from setbacks and rejections

  • Understanding standard direct voter contact programs and experience using data to inform plans and programs

  • Experience in using data visualization tools to explain a campaign’s past performance, its trajectory, and the context in which it is operating

  • Ability to manage several tasks / projects concurrently and prioritizing work effectively by making and meeting team goals

  • Ability to communicate what is necessary to achieve tasks to other staff and when and how these requirements are either being met successfully or not

  • Must be comfortable working with diverse stakeholders in one-on-one meetings and group settings

  • Must be a self-starter willing to work long, irregular campaign-style hours and to travel as needed, especially during campaign season

  • Experience conducting both one-on-one and group trainings and/or developing training materials for end users

  • Must be able to travel at least 20% of the time for work (reliable transportation required)

  • Experience Managing a team

 

SPECIFIC TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • ​Strong VAN and other database skills, specifically in the context of administering and training on the use of VAN and other data tools

  • Experience with maintaining turf tracking in VAN and other tools for a field campaign

  • Advanced Google Sheets and/or Excel skills

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ​Knowledge of and experience with Arizona’s political landscape and an understanding of Arizona’s electorate, including the unique country of origin diversity within Arizona's BIPOC constituencies and the coalition partner landscape

  • Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS or Maptitude

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience using data visualization tools such as Looker Studio (formerly called Google Data Studio), Tableau, Sisense’s Periscope, or visualization in R or Python
